Cupcakes For A Cause

56806657_2261129590795829_1075094970626473984_nIntroducing THE perfect dessert treat for your celebration. Sarah Bellum’s Bakery & Workshop offers delectable sweet and savory cupcakes that look adorable and taste amazing. Even better, they do it with a purpose. Since opening in SW Portland six months ago, the not-for-profit bakery has provided return-to-work opportunities for adults with acquired brain injury. Small but mighty, the team at Sarah Bellum’s hopes to raise awareness about brain injury while delivering a scrumptious product. The ingenious name – a nod to the cerebellum in the brain – will give you some idea of the heart and humor at work here. With advance notice, the bakery can delivery a variety of mini or full sized cupcakes for your wedding shower, rehearsal dinner, celebration of life and receptions of all sizes. Check out the full range of flavors on their menu page. It’s hard to pick favorites but the cheddar chive savory is always a hit, as is the salted caramel. And the lemon-blueberry. And the chocolate-raspberry. And … okay you get the idea. Organic, bargain priced, delicious, gluten-free/vegan options and all for a fabulous cause. This is a love story that everyone can celebrate. TIP: You can also send guests home with a treat for fido – exclusive PUPcake gourmet dog treats.

Heart and Soul

Heart and Soul by Jane Green

The Greek story of Eros and Psyche (heart and soul) written in 2nd Century AD is a complicated tale of love.  It weaves together jealousy, deception, marriage, sacrifice, feats of strength and moments of weakness. The original beauty and the beast, in the end love triumphs and Psyche and her lover Eros (also known as Cupid) are united for all time. In this collage, I kept the classic palette of the sculpture and included a few of my photos reflecting the beauty of nature. It was one of the first pieces I did without text. Sometimes the power of the image is all you need. Just like love. This is the 3rd in a series of featured collages. View the 2nd. View the 1st.

The Art of Self Love

Good Things by Jane Green

This second in my series of collages speaks to the process of loving and trusting yourself. This can be a lifelong journey but a truly rewarding one – and necessary before genuine relationships can occur. “Love boards” are great tools for both reflection and action. Search your heart and then choose images that relate to what you are feeling now and where you desire to go. Once your visual is done, write an affirmation on the back. I completed my Good Things in April 2014 and wrote : “A world of possibilities lay at my feet. I need only to see the good things in life and dare to cross the bridge; be authentic in my pursuits; and allow the wind to fill my sails.” Truer words were never illustrated.

View and read about the first collage, Bliss.

Love Boards

PhotoGrid_1537810659468.jpgHere’s a great way to make romance come to life. Create a visual representation using the time honored art of collage. You can do it on your own or invite friends to join you and make it a collage party. Supply the glue sticks, mat boards and magazines. Calendars, photos, book marks, greeting cards, ticket stubs … you name it and it can be re-purposed into your new work of art. It’s so interesting to see what the finished product will look like – sometimes it can surprise you and take a totally different turn. Be sure to date your collage and snap a photo of it for a keepsake. Put the finished artwork in a place of honor to inspire your dreams and to help you keep a festive heart. I’ll be featuring some favorite collages that I’ve created over the years. This one I call Bliss which demonstrates the soft, sweet, sparkling elements of authentic love.

Sharing the Love

PhotoGrid_1513828036627.jpgI love getting holiday greetings from my couples. The love glows right through the envelope! It makes that special day snap right back in view along with all the smiles and sweetness of the occasion. Whether its newlyweds celebrating their first Christmas as husband and wife, or couples marking their fifth – it’s wonderful to be able to share in the love again. I’m also happy to see the tradition of snail mail greetings is alive and well. Keep those much appreciated cards coming all you lovely Mr. & Mrs’s. Note: Featured card just arrived from Nona and Jeromie Hunter. Married in Portland in 2016 and now residing in Seattle where their busy schedule includes Nona completing nursing school, Jeromie working full time and still managing to get his pilot’s license and both surviving the throws of renovating a condo. Merry Christmas, Sweeties!

Wedding Day Shines True

PhotoGrid_1506296685759Love – pure and simple – was on display yesterday in all its beauty at the wedding of Midori and James. The Seattle couple exchanged vows in front of family and friends at a private lake house in Snohomish County. The bride’s parents flew in from Japan and the groom’s parents attended from Atlanta. The ceremony featured a traditional “red string of fate” unity ritual as well as a presentation of pink rose pendants to each of the Mom’s. The presentation and the exchange of vows was translated in both Japanese and PhotoGrid_1506296873308Korean by the couple’s friend, Kyoung hee. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and a lavish dinner featuring Northwest cuisine catered by A Grand Affaire. The menu included coconut shrimp and cedar plank salmon. The wedding cake was a traditional Japanese chestnut cream frosted sheet cake. After enjoying their weekend with family at Lake Goodwin, the newlyweds return to Seattle where James works in the tech industry and Midori enjoys a new admin job with a local seafood producer. Congratulations, Mrs. & Mrs. Bang! May the sweetness and sincerity of your commitment to each other fill your hearts with a love that remains pure and real and shining true. PhotoGrid_1506296436203

Delightful Wedding at Double Tree

PhotoGrid_1499632553394Guests from as far away as New York and Illinois gathered Saturday evening for the wedding of Alice and Kevin. Both the ceremony and reception were hosted at the Double Tree by Hilton Portland hotel. Glittery gold accented the color pallet of ivory, peach and black which was carried out in gowns, bouquets, decor and a sparkling candy station. The ceremony featured a glass sand unity ritual – the blended sand to be used by the groom to craft a signature piece of art. After the ceremony, guests were invited to enjoy an open bar and hors d’oeuvres buffet which included mouth watering treats such as crab cakes and corn fritters. A lavish dinner buffet followed featuring Northwest salads, stuffed pasta, chicken, roast pork and a prime rib carving station. Entertainment included a photo booth and DJ tunes. In addition to the build-your-own candy box, each guest selected a succulent to take home (complete with “how to care for” instructions) courtesy of the family succulent farm. After a honeymoon in Cancun, the newlyweds return to Portland where Alice works in retail management and Kevin is a glass artist. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Murray! May your marriage be blessed with light and laughter.
