Urban Wedding with Country Comfort

Scholls Valley LodgeLooking for a venue that combines urban convenience with rural charm? Scholls Valley Lodge offers the perfect blend of city mouse and country mouse. You’ll feel like you’re on the Ponderosa – just minutes away from Beaverton. I’m a huge fan of venues that encourage brides to DIY and Scholls Valley offers plenty of options to do it your way. Book the entire venue for a weekend, rent it for a day or a night, set up an outdoor reception for 300 or hold an intimate ceremony indoors. You can use the spacious kitchen to cook brunch, plan a potluck buffet, bring in your own caterer OR do a combination of all three. You have the run of the place. Dishes, linens and tables are yours to use. Rent more if needed. The lodge sleeps up to 22  in six beautifully appointed guest rooms including a handicap accessible lower level suite but you can also bring sleeping bags or air mattresses to accommodate your party. Situated on 55 private acres in wine country, you’ll have sweeping views of the valley and lovely landscaped grounds for photo ops and strolling. Did I mention the pool? The roll-up glass doors? The man-cave with pool table? There’s even a piano. Scholls Valley provides the perfect place to save dollars, get family and friends involved and create the wedding of your dreams. Ceremony Labyrinth

ceremony circleThe Pin of the Week is a creative seating arrangement for your ceremony. This labyrinth style layout holds significance in the tradition of finding your answer as you walk the path AND allows the bride to walk past every guest. A lovely way to include everyone in a personal way. Works for both large and small weddings. Check it out and find other inspirations on my Pinterest boards.

Donate Your Wedding Dress

donate_buttonBrides for a Cause raised $17,000 at their PDX sale last month. I saw so many stunning gowns in the arms of smiling brides going out the door. It’s a terrific way to find the dress of your dreams without a nightmare price tag – and support a great cause at the same time. Wonderful deals on veils and other accessories as well. If you want to be a part of the next batch of smiles, why not donate your dress? Wedding gown fashions from 2005 to current are now being accepted by this nationwide agency that helps fund Wish Upon a WeddingClick here to download the donation form. You’ll also find details on upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. Here’s to sharing the love!

The Girl Said Yes

You may be one of the thousands who has already viewed this incredible “Best Marriage Proposal Ever” on YouTube but here’s what you may NOT know:

It’s a Portland couple. It was filmed in a local neighborhood off 99. The groom-to-be is starring as Captain Von Trapp in the Broadway Rose Theater production of The Sound of Music opening later this month in Tigard. (Fun note: PDX favorite, Margie Boule, stars as Mother Abbess.) Thanks to my daughter, Holly, for sharing the interesting tidbits. And thanks to my July bride, Dolores, for sending the video my way. Click here to view the tape. It’s such a feel good five minutes!

Cupcakes from the Heart

I’ve been a fan of gourmet cupcakes since they first hit the scene a few years ago. They’re a great crowd pleaser and such a fun alternative to standard cake. No one puts more heart and soul into baking cupcakes than Barb and Rick Nischalke of Cookies, Cupcakes & More. Specializing in weddings and events in the PDX metro area, the couple offers cupcakes and cookies in a wide variety of flavors and frostings to enhance any occasion. Unlike most other commercial bakers, Barb and Rick provide lots of creative flexibility and welcome custom orders. You can even request a private tasting session while you discuss design ideas. I’m a fan of their Chocolate Peanut Butter with the runner up being their After Dinner Mint with Andes mint pieces in the cake. Yum! Whether you are planning a wedding for 100, an office party for 50, or a baby shower for 25 – give them a call. They love what they do and it shows. You couldn’t be in nicer hands.  Visit the website now .

Downtown Swank for Sweethearts

The Crown Ballroom in downtown PDX provided glitz and glamour at last night’s wedding for Danielle and Justin. Dean Martin’s classic “Ain’t That A Kick In The Head?” serenaded the newlyweds back down the aisle as guests cheered. Opulent decor and smiling hearts – a perfect combo. After a Hawaiian honeymoon, the sweethearts return to their mutual careers in finance. Congratulations, Danielle Justine and Justin Daniel … you are truly a class act! Click here to see slide show.

Bride Blends Funk with Sweet Country Love

Chalkboard hearts and cowboy boots blended with tatoos and black dresses. Homemade jam alongside Pambiche, St. Cupcake and Voodoo Doughnuts.  What fun! Perfect weather and a thoughtful wine bar greeted guests yesterday at Leach Botanical Gardens for the wedding of Courtney and Chris. Congrats and much joy to the sweethearts!
